Replacing your HVAC system's smooth V-belts with notched V-belts is a simple and reliable way to save energy. With notches that reduce surface area, notched V-belts bend more easily, spin pulleys with less resistance and use less energy to condition air.
Notched V-Belts Run Smoother Than Smooth
Notched V-belts provide an efficient alternative to commonly used smooth belts. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, notched V-belts run cooler, last longer and have efficiency about 2% higher" than smooth V-belts.
How It Works
To ensure we deliver the highest quality service, we require all customers participating in the Quality Maintenance Program to install notched V-belts. Upon installation, customers and contractors will be able to take advantage of per-unit incentives from SCE.
Notched V-belts help reduce energy costs and improve HVAC system reliability, and they pay for themselves in just a few months.
SCE customers who are already participating in Quality Maintenance and want to take advantage of notched V-belt technology can ask their current contractor for more information.
If you’re new to HVAC Optimization, you can find a participating contractor on our website to learn more and determine eligibility.
Local HVAC contractors who want to expand their services and bring the benefits of demand-controlled ventilation with variable frequency drives to their customers can find out more by contacting the HVAC Optimization team
